Our 3-Month Steady to Flush Pointing Program is a comprehensive and specialized training program that takes your pointing dog's abilities to a whole new level. This intensive program is designed to complement and enhance your dog's skills alongside our Foundation for Success Program, which provides a solid base for all our dogs. Please note that this program does not include the teaching of the heel cue, as it differs from the typical behavior expected of pointing dogs.
Steady to Flush Pointing Program: Building Excellence
Off-Lead Recall: We start with a strong emphasis on off-lead recall. Your dog will learn to return to you reliably, even in off-leash situations, ensuring they can respond to your cues in hunting scenarios.
Live Bird Introduction: We carefully introduce your dog to live birds, fostering their natural instincts and confidence. This is a vital step in building a hunting companion with a strong pointing instinct.
Live Gunfire Introduction: To prepare your dog for hunting situations, we acclimate them to the sounds of live gunfire. This ensures they remain calm and focused when hunting.
Place Training: We continue to reinforce the place training introduced in the Foundation for Success Program. This skill is essential for maintaining control over your dog's movements and behavior during hunts.
Whoa Training: Teaching your dog to "whoa" or stand still on cue is fundamental for pointing dogs. We focus on perfecting this skill, helping your dog maintain a point when they detect game.
Tone and Whistle Conditioned Recall and Directional Change: We introduce tone and whistle cues, enhancing your dog's ability to respond to your cues and direct them effectively at distance in the field.
Steady to Flush: The "steady to flush" is the heart of this program. We train your dog to remain steady and maintain their point until birds flush, ensuring the best hunting experience.
Individualized Approach
We understand that each dog is unique, and some may have a strong desire to retrieve while others may not. If your puppy is inclined to retrieve, we will foster and encourage this behavior. However, if your dog does not enjoy retrieving, this program does not involve a formal retrieve training process. We recommend considering a formal retrieving training course after your dog has gained hunting experience.
